Mariam Ghalayan's performance Documentary Self-Discovery intervenes the collective body of the market and creates a radical experience for understanding one's own corporeality. Stretched red rope refers to umbilical cord, the heavy stone embodies the body itself, water is associated with ablutions and purification. Mariam is rolling the stone along the red path, struggling, suffering, crying, and laughing - it is a way that should be walked through, no matter how hard and long it is. To live means to have a body - but how does it feel to have one? The spectators connect somatically to the performer's presence and endure together her way through the market which triggers to reflect on labor of being.
